Utah Shakespeare Festival troupe to give free performance at Ben Lomond High
The Utah Shakespeare Festival’s traveling troupe is performing “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” at 7 p.m., Thursday, March 30, at Ben Lomond High School. The event is free and open to the public. The Shakespeare Festival’s professional actors have been coming to work with students and perform for 17 years, said Ogden School Foundation Executive Director Janis Vause.

Benedictine sisters give last of assets to Northern Utah nonprofits
They’ve given all their funds. Now, they give their faith. The former sisters of St. Benedict Monastery in South Ogden traveled to Ogden Monday, Feb. 13, to distribute the last of the about $5 million of their foundation’s net worth. The monastery left the area nearly five years ago.

Award-winning author Anthony Doerr headlines Ogden School District fundraiser
Award-winning author Anthony Doerr is adding his name to a long list of writers who have attended the Ogden School District Foundation’s annual Fall Author Event. The event is the foundation’s largest fundraiser every year, drawing about 1,000 people in recent years and filling the Ogden Eccles Conference Center. Other authors who have attended include Ray Bradbury, Amy Tan, Neil Gaiman and Ken Burns.

Ogden School District teachers surprised with grant money during class
Tina Mathewson’s class of fifth grade students was almost as excited as she was when members of the Ogden School District Foundation surprised her with a $1,000 check Monday morning. Mathewson, who teaches IT, language arts and science at Wasatch Elementary School, said she’s going to use the grant to buy four or five Chromebooks for her kids.

Utah Humanities Book Festival spreads to Ogden

Ogden students with top attendance get night out at Raptors baseball game
United Way has partnered with the Ogden School Foundation to support student attendance by featuring students in the Ogden School District for perfect attendance. At 6:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 2, more than 1,770 elementary students will be featured at the Ogden School Foundation's "Night at the Raptors" baseball game. Those students have 98 percent or higher "perfect attendance" in Ogden School District.

Spence Eccles Ogden Community Sports Complex celebrates its grand opening
The Ogden School District welcomed guests to the grand opening of the complex Friday, May 13, and local philanthropist Spence Eccles was the ceremony’s keynote speaker.

Fannie Flagg, author of "Fried Greed Tomatoes" booked for Fall Author Event
The Ogden School Foundation has announced Fannie Flagg as the star of this year's Fall Author Event. Flagg, bestselling author of "Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe," "Can't Wait to Get to Heaven" and "I Still Dream About You," will speak about her work on Thursday, Nov. 10, during a dinner gala at the Ogden Eccles Conference Center.

Utah Shakespeare Festival bringing free performance of 'Hamlet' to Ogden
The Ogden community will get a taste of the Utah Shakespeare Festival next week when its traveling troupe performs "Hamlet" on March 23. Admission to the show will be free thanks to the Ogden School Foundation and its sponsors, Weber County RAMP, Suzanne Lindquist, Weber State University Stewart Library and Ogden High School.

Ogden's new community sports complex slated for grand opening in mid-May

Renowned author shares success stories with Utah school students
Best-selling author Simon Winchester advises young people who dream of writing for a living not to major in it at school. Instead, study something like science, geography, botany, history or philosophy. "Then you've got something to write about," he told students from Ben Lomond and Ogden high schools. "Write, by all means, and read -- reading is hugely important -- but study something completely unrelated to writing so you know something else."

Ogden Community Soccer Complex invites lacrosse and possible new name to facility
The Ogden Community Soccer Complex may be getting a new name. Ogden School District's Board of Education is scheduled to vote on the name during its next meeting, which starts at 6 p.m. Aug. 20. The meeting will be held in the board room of the district's administration building, 1950 Monroe Blvd., Ogden.

Donations help build Ogden soccer complex
Utah Youth Soccer Association presented a $25,000 check to Ogden High School soccer teams to help pay for the construction of the new Ogden Community Soccer Complex. The passing of the check, on Monday, June 15, was made on the turf of the nearly completed first phase of the complex, being built on land just north of the Ogden City School District offices at 1950 Monroe Blvd.
